Call for Submissions!

This winter, River Glass Books welcomes submissions of chapbook manuscripts (20-30 pages)—and shorter collections (3-5 pages)—from Nov 15 to Jan 15.

We are interested in un-themed manuscripts as well as socio-environmental work for our new Writes of Nature series. For an example of the writing that interests us, please see our catalogue, including Edie Dillon’s Pulling Together in Rising Waters: Reciprocity as Practicethe first chapbook in our Writes of Nature series.

Submission Categories

Manuscripts of any genre or form will be considered during the following reading periods:

Open Reading Period, November 15 – December 15: Our un-themed, open reading period for chapbook manuscripts. As always, we charge no reading fee for general submissions. Each manuscript will be considered for publication as a limited-edition chapbook in 2026 or 2027. Additionally, individual pieces may be selected for publication in a forthcoming anthology.

We are also reading shorter manuscripts (3-5 pages of any genre / form) for potential publication in a forthcoming anthology.

Editorial Feedback Period, December 15 – January 15:  A new offering by River Glass Books, we will be providing professional editorial feedback on submissions received between December 15 and January 15. Both chapbook and shorter manuscripts of any form / genre are welcome, and all submissions will be considered for publication as a chapbook or part of a forthcoming anthology in 2026 or 2027.

Reading fee for editorial feedback:

  • $10 for manuscripts of 3-5 pages
  • $18 for manuscripts of 20-30 pages

To submit work during the editorial feedback period, first make a payment through our online store (https://riverglassbooks.com/product/reading-fee/) or via check and then send your manuscript via email according to guidelines below. The length of our response will vary according to the work submitted, and in all cases we will give your work the attention it deserves.

Our mission is to advance climate justice and foster a culture of sustainability in the arts while publishing world-class literature. We rely on a team of dedicated volunteer staff—and the readers, writers, and artists who have supported us over the years. Reading fees help cover general overhead expenses. Book sale proceeds support the conservation of threatened charapa turtles and the sustainable development of the Mandari Panga community in the Ecuadorian Amazon basin.

Guidelines

Submissions should be sent via email to riverglassbooks@gmail.com. Attach the manuscript as a .doc, .docx, .pdf, or .rtf file, and include in the body of the email your cover letter with a short bio.

Simultaneous submissions are welcome. Send us an email to withdraw your manuscript if it’s accepted for book publication elsewhere. Should a selection be accepted for publication while we’re considering your manuscript, you can let us know in a quick email, but there’s no need to withdraw the whole submission.

Payment for accepted chapbook manuscripts is $75, fifteen author copies, and a discounted rate on additional title purchases.

One author copy per contributor is provided as payment for individual pieces selected for anthology publication.

Reading submissions remains a top pleasure and privilege of this work. We can’t wait to see what you submit.
